Let’s leave the almost unreal, at least for us humans, incomprehensible periods of time behind us. Now that we know what granite is, I’d like to tell you about how the people in our region use it.
From here you have a good overview of what awaits you. Outside you’ll see an old quarry. We’ll take a look at this at the end of our tour. In front of you is a high room with a large window overlooking the quarry. The quarry wall stretches far into the building, right up to the point where you are now. The granite floor next to you is natural stone.
In this large, bright exhibition room, everything revolves around the history of granite use since the advent of industry. This was accompanied by the “dream team” of railroads and paving stones. The steel spike on the granite wall in front of you symbolizes this striking switch. It is the centerpiece of a rail switch.
To the left, past the rails, you’ll come to an exhibition about the old days before the Industrial Revolution. At the end of the corridor, we’ll meet again.
